  • miranda is a gynaecologist, a specialist doctor who has studied and trained in what has been traditionally called “womens’ health”. however, we at grounded gynaecology have deliberately chosen a gender neutral title to be more inclusive. no matter your story; all bodies are welcome here. there may be many reasons to see a gynaecologist and only a handful are included here. we usually ask for a referral to be sent through to be sure that miranda is the right fit. miranda does not provide IVF services although she can often help with other means to help with fertility. she also cannot offer any surgical support for patients with incontinence

  • painful periods and heavy periods are common reasons to see a gynaecologist. most young people when they are first getting their periods will have the odd heavy cycle as their hormones start to regulate. for the same reason periods start to get heavy again towards the menopause. when periods are consistently heavy or painful enough to drop your iron stores, deplete your energy and take you away from your work, education or activities you enjoy then it means it’s time to talk to someone. often your family doctor may be able to help but if you need a procedure or further advice a specialist may be involved. endometriosis or adenomyosis is often talked about as a possibility and miranda can help rule this out and if this is considered will operate on early stage disease. however the evidence is that this is more than just a physical ailment to be treated with surgical approaches. it is a inflammatory condition highly associated with other similar inflammatory conditions such as hypermobility, mast cell disorders, fibromyalgia and even various forms of neurodevelopmental conditions. as such its best managed with a team of clinicians who treat you as a whole person. this approach also means that if you do need an operation you will likely recover better and with a greater understanding of how your body works.

  • If you have had an abnormal screening through your local health provider then you may need to be referred for further testing through a specialist. miranda is credentialed to provide colposcopic assessment of the cervix which involves looking at the cervix through a magnifying lens and if necessary taking a small biopsy. she understands that these kinds of procedures can be traumatic or painful for a small number of patients. it is our wish for you to have an experience that is not traumatic and as such we offer patients the “green whistle” or penthrane as an option for pain relief for during their appointment. if this is something you would like to consider please notify us so that we can send you a script. if you decide to use penthrane you will not be able to drive yourself home and would need a trusted friend to accompany you to the appointment.

  • miranda has worked for many years at austin health’s family planning clinic. she is very experienced at advising patient on their options for contraception including inserting IUD’s both hormonal (mirena/kyleena) as well as the copper IUD. for very young women or patients who have had traumatic experiences before a general anaesthetic may be the most appropriate way to insert an IUD. however we also offer patients the “green whistle” or penthrane as an alternative. if this is something you would like to consider please notify us so that we can provide a prescription and you would also need a trusted friend to accompany you home.

  • many women struggle for years before they realise that it is their hormones. the perimenopause is the years prior to the menopause. for most women it is the emotional and cognitive symptoms that begin first before the vasomotor symptoms. since the WHI trial in the early 2000’s many GP’s have been reluctant to prescribe MHT (menopause hormonal therapy) when in fact in the majority of women modern day therapies are safe and are associated with long term better health and longevity.

  • miranda has a growing number of referrals from around australia that she is consulting for opinion on symptoms relating to hormone health in neurodivergent patients AFAB.

neurodivergence presenting later in life will often present as neurodivergent burnout. oftentimes these patients will be late diagnosed ADHD or Autistic or both and with a high crossover into cPTSD. many have symptoms of fibromyalgia, hEDS and MCAS. managing hormonal health as well as many aspects of the nervous systems collapse is integral to a multidisciplinary whole person approach to health.

miranda is happy to receive referrals from GP’s, psychiatrists, endocrinologists or any member of the medical team who thinks that you may benefit from her opinion. these consultations tend to run for over an hour and as such are charged accordingly.

  • miranda is not a specialist paediatric gynaecologist but is very comfortable seeing older adolescents (12 years and older) and teenagers who are struggling with their periods and or hormonal health. She has a particular interest in teenagers with neurodivergence.

this list is by no means exhaustive. please send through an enquiry to see if we can help. please note Miranda does not offer surgical management for incontinence nor IVF services but can often help with infertility work-up and simple medical assistance.
